Dogs from Essex Therapy Dogs work their magic

Our clients have started to enjoy visits from some very special dog’s, courtesy of Essex Therapy Dogs Essex Therapy Dogs is a local therapy group that visit individuals and organisations in Essex to help and support those in need.

These visits can ease loneliness and isolation for the elderly that don’t have visits from family and friends, or who cannot get out and about in the community.  Sometimes a visit from one of these amazing dogs can be the highlight of their week.

By Introducing these dogs to our groups, we hope to give our clients all the benefits of interacting with them as well as filling the gap that could have been left by past beloved pets, no longer living with them.

Wolfie

The first dog to visit went to the Sandon, Chelmsford ‘Every Day Counts’ group. Wolfie is a stunning looking dog who was accompanied by mother and daughter team, Joanne, and Katarina. The clients really enjoyed petting Wolfie on the day.

Sam

Next to visit our Broomfield ‘Every Day Counts’ group was Sam, another adorable dog.  The group absolutely loved having Sam who has a very calm and sweet nature.

Asher

We joined the Bradwell, Braintree, ‘Every Day Counts’ group last week to meet another friendly visitor.  We wanted to see first-hand how the group interacted with Asher, a gorgeous cocker spaniel, accompanied by Pauline.

The whole group enjoyed meeting and petting Asher and everyone was happy to let her wander amongst them off the lead, greeting each client with enthusiasm.  Pauline also showed us all some tricks that Asher can perform, she’s a very clever little dog and the clients clapped at her performance.

It seemed that those present on the day are animal lovers and the atmosphere was very relaxed and happy, perhaps some were missing having their own pets and you could just sense spirits lifting.

According to Essex Therapy Dogs, spending time with therapy dogs have many benefits to mental and physical health, including providing comfort and soothing emotions.

Apart from many benefits to mental health, there are physical benefits as well. this interaction can help people to physically relax, slowing down breathing for those who are anxious.

We look forward to welcoming many more dogs to our groups in the future.
