Yesterday was Anosmia Awareness Day and the Bradwell, Braintree Oasis group focused on the nose. Eve our practioners and the group leader shared their experiences and some interesting facts.
“Anosmia is a condition where someone may experience the loss of smell. We completed a fun quiz all pertaining to the nose, even identifying animal noses.
We then had a go at identifying different essential oils. We played ‘Was it floral, fruity or spicy?’ Instead of trying to guess the actual scent.
Sense of smell is affected by lots of different aliments from the common cold, hay fever, injuries to the nose, COVID-19, dementia and the aging process.
The sense of smell is often the first sense to be affected by dementia. Understanding this is key when caring for an individual living alone and keeping their environment safe.”
