It was Pirates Day at Every Day Counts Bradwell, Braintree with some wonderful swashbuckling fun. Clients and practitioners were split up into teams to create their own maps and unique story of how they visualised they would build their dessert island if they were stranded there. Some visualised a five star hotel, a theme park and fishing for their dinner off a jetty, others built a zoo and imagined palm trees and white beaches. It was all about storytelling and also re-visiting the old classic pirate folk tales.
Storytelling creates an opportunity to create fictional narratives without any frustration of having to remember facts. Giving someone the opportunity to imagine and create stories not only has great cognitive benefits but also helps to improves social interactions and mood.
